Specialist repointing and tuckpointing across all Sydney Metro. We rake out failed mortar and replace it with a properly matched mix, restoring weatherproofing and the look of the building.
What is repointing?
Repointing is the process of removing deteriorated mortar from the joints of brick or stone walls and replacing it with fresh mortar. Over time, typically 50 to 100 years on Sydney homes, mortar weathers, cracks, and falls out, leaving the brickwork exposed to water ingress, frost, and movement. Tuckpointing is a heritage variant that uses a contrasting fine ribbon of lime mortar to create the appearance of perfectly thin joints.
Once mortar fails, water tracks straight through the joint and into the cavity, the inner leaf, and the structure behind. That moisture is what drives every other masonry problem: efflorescence, fretting bricks, corroded wall ties, lintel rust, and cracking. Repointing properly stops the cycle at the source.
What we do
Rake out
We rake out failed mortar to a depth of at least twice the joint width, typically 15–25mm, using hand tools or a controlled dust-extracted grinder where appropriate.
Match the mix
We sample the existing mortar to match colour, sand, and binder. For pre-1950s walls that means a lime-rich mix, never a hard cement mortar that traps moisture in the brick.
Match the profile
Flush, weather-struck, bucket-handle, recessed, or tuckpointed, we replicate the original joint profile so the building reads as one fabric.
Cure and protect
We damp-cure new mortar, protect from sun and rain, and clean down the brick face so the work is invisible from across the street.
Signs you need repointing
For builders and contractors
We handle bulk repointing on residential and strata projects, heritage tuckpointing on character buildings, and one-off elevations on commercial work. We provide a written scope, a programme that fits your trade sequence, and progress photos through to completion.
Insurance certificates and SWMS are available on request. We can provide a sample panel for client sign-off before bulk works begin.

FAQ
How long does repointing last?
A properly executed repoint with a matched lime or lime-cement mortar should last 60–100 years on a typical Sydney home. The right mortar matters more than the application, a hard cement repoint on a soft heritage brick can fail within a decade and damage the bricks themselves.
Can you match my existing mortar colour?
Yes. We sample the existing mortar and adjust sand colour, binder ratio, and pigment to match. On heritage tuckpointed walls we’ll prepare a sample panel for sign-off before completing the elevation.
Do you need scaffolding?
For most single-storey work, we use ladders and trestles. Two-storey and above generally needs scaffolding to do the job safely and properly, we can include scaffolding hire and erection in our quote, or work with your existing site scaffold.
